Review ~ The Diamond Connection by Shimrit Hilel

Review ~ The Diamond Connection by Shimrit HilelThe Diamond Connection is an intriguing book and a page turner (or “swipper” on my case). It will not captivate you right away, but do give it a chance, it’s what I did. At the beginning it was very slow. I have to put it down, because I was bored with Ella preoccupation with her weight, it was not what I was expecting. Two weeks later I pick it up again and couldn’t put it down.

23 year old Ella Cohen, eager to get out a world of debts, poverty and struggle, lands a job with the rich and handsome Danny Lerman and his wife, Monica. Ella finds herself boarding a plane for the first time in her life…she travels to New York and London, wines and dines in the finest restaurants and receives her first pair of diamond earrings…Slowly she is swept in a whirlwind of love and passion with the man that made it all possible – her very married boss.
Just like her mother warned her…‘Where there is money, there is trouble’, Ella’s glamorous world comes crashing down on her… She is kidnapped in the middle of London’s busy Oxford Street in the middle of the day, her car blows up moments after she walks out of it, a large sum of money gets transferred to her account from an unknown source, and two thugs with a foreign accent stalk her around the city, eventually attacking her in a dark parking lot in Tel Aviv…

With a premise like that how could you not pick up this book? It has its ups and downs, but it is well written. It is written in the first person which it was a letdown, because of the lack of dialogue between the characters. I think it there was a little bit more of dialogue it would have define the characters better. The turning point for me was when the action and mystery started to be the main focus. The romance was ok, cheating is not my cup of tea, although it was an interesting read and the twist at the end was unexpected.

The Diamond Connection has a little bit of everything, romance, mystery and the expected twist. It was a fun read.
